Kojima waited 8 years for the PSone to continue Snakes Adventures
Written and directed by Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear is the first in the "Metal Gear Solid" franchise. To many fans of the series, Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation was considered the first, but that does not change the fact Metal Gear on the NES was the first ever!

It's simply amazing how similar presentation wise it is to its successors of the PS3 and XBOX. The game's stealth based structure is familiar, as are the alert stages and equipment control. That said, while the gameplay is certainly reminiscent of its sequels, it has a rough, loose feeling that lacks the later games' polish but it does not spoil the gameplay. The game is certainly groundbreaking and ambitious with its ideas, but the true brilliance of Kojima is not seen until the future versions.  Kojima then waited eight years for the PS1 to continue Snake's story.

Metal Gear is a fun game for its time that introduced players to hiding from your enemies instead of just blowing everything up, which paid the way to the stealth genre.
