Sega 32X

BORN IN 1994

The Sega 32X is an add-on for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis console. It was codenamed "Project Mars" (really should have mushroom because of its shape!)  the 32X was designed to boost  the power of the megadrive and serve as a stop gap until the release of the Sega Saturn.

The 32X had  its own cartridges and had its own library of games, which of course were more expensive and eyecatching the the Megadrive! It was distributed under the name Super 32X in Japan, Sega Genesis 32X in North America, Sega Mega Drive 32X in the UK, and Sega Mega 32X in Brazil.

The 32X can only be used in conjunction with Segas Megadrive system. It is inserted into the cartridge slot like a standard game, although it did require another power supply.  In addition to playing its own library of games,  The 32X also brought the arcade classic of Virtua Racing and awesome looking Star wars games to the Megadrive.
