We've all grown up with the driving classics of arcade, computer and console gaming. In the arcade we'd got pretty close at this point in 98 to the real thing.

Five years in the making and boy did it show - the realism blew us away.

But when we saw the first glimpse of Gran Turismo we really couldn't believe how real it looked - just like racing on a real track..

This time Sony had really delivered racing fans. With near TV quality cars in the intro and cut scenes, to the track on the opening with the Chemical Brothers pumping remix of the Manic Street Preachers song "Everything Must Go" -  this was a hit!

5 years in the making and the development started in 1992 -  it was worth it! :) GT was racing simulation at it's very best. Not only did it have an impact for both petrolheads and gamers at the time -  it set the scene for driving games to come. The driving games we play now both at home and those that still luckily exist in the few arcades that remain - owe their thanks to Gran Turismo.
