What can be said about Tomb Raider what hasn't been said already? Every great console needs a title and a character that stands out amongst the rest - and Lara truly delivered. Icon, Hero, adventurer - she has it all.

Lara will enter the caves and dark passages and you know this is an adventure like no other

From the very beginning of Tomb Raider when you enter Lara's Gym you know you are on for a winner! This training gives you all the skills you need in jumping climbing and of course getting on target with your shooting.

Then off you go to the caves and dark passages - this is a quest like no other and the 3DO or SNES games around the corner just couldn't compete with. This was the 3D experience at the time that Sony promised us, even in the early demos of the Playstation we saw a T-Rex moving around, in Tomb Raider it came more alive!

Developers Core design and publishers EIDOS came together to create what began as a one game beginning to what became a massive character and franchise that still lives on today nearly 20 years later. The key to the success is Lara Croft herself, designed by British designer Toby Gard. Her personality as a strong, powerful female character remains one of the many memorable characters of the gaming era of the 90s. But she really stood out with her archaeologist background but arobatic skills in the dark deep tombs she was to encounter.

The first time that dinosaur comes running your way, you know as a gamer you're on for a winner!  And being the 'Game of the Year' in 1996 -  this definately deserved it's credit and following back in the day. We forget the impact of this game sometimes as games have moved on - but replay it now and think back to those heady days of the mid 90s and have fun!
