The choice this generation's starter Pokemon is always a difficult choice which of these little creatures is going to be my companion throughout this new land of Hoenn.

This questline concludes with the awakening of the Legendary Pokemon

Full of interesting newPokemon, do I go for the Graas type - Treeko, The fire type - Torchic or finally the water type - Mudkip. I usually go for water starters since the first gen with Squirtle and this time I did the same, My Mudkip soon evolved into bigger and badder versions always washing the opponents away.

You start off as a new kid just moved into sleepy Littleroot Town and are asked by one of the world's leading professor's on Pokemon to help him out by filling a Pokedex of the region's Pokemon capturing them and evolving them to their final form.

Along your way you come across the antagonist organisations of Team Magma or Team Aqua which plan to awaken the regions dormant legendary Pokemon to either increase the regions land by drying up the ocean or decrease Hoenn by increasing the size of the ocean. You assist in the downfall of the organisation as you make you way throughout Hoenn on your quest to become Pokemon master and completing the Pokedex. This questline concludes with the awakening of the Legendary Pokemon (Groudon or Kyogre) and severe weather affecting the region, only stopped by a dramatic battle between you, the trainer and the game specific Legendary.

The journey is milestoned by competing in battles against gym leaders who specialise in a type of Pokemon in each of the towns and cities rewarded with badges and new moves for your team of 6 Pokemon to learn. Collection of all of these badges allows you to compete against the elite four, the best pokemon trainers in the region with all these fights culminating in a final stand to become pokemon master.

The game also introduced two new Legendary roaming Pokemon Latias and Latios, once you, the young Pokemon trainer had defeated the elite four, these Pokemon had a chance to be found throughout Hoenn. All the Pokemon games have a very similar style of battling with turn based mechanics and type-bias attacks leading to strategical choice of Pokemon in your team to fight against the opponents. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire introduces a new mechanism of double battles where instead of the single Pokemon vs single Pokemon style that is most common it includes a 2 v 2 approach with certain trainers and wild sightings of Pokemon.

Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire build upon the previous generations with a increase in graphics and some new gameplay mechanics as well as the introduction of more and more newPokemon into the franchise.
