This is an overhead, round the houses blast. Throttle your way around a selection of tracks and go head-to-head with nine other racers, round courses full of jumps, bends, bridges, and retracting death barriers.

Shortcuts are in the form of jumps, tunnels and gates is essential

Win and get cash to splash on your vehicle to tune it up into a high-speed killing machine that handles better than the rest. SCII is great in single player but is better fun with a mate (until they win and you dont). An arsenal of weaponery can be bought to try and ensure your podium finish including missiles, homing missiles and mines making it a death race to the finish.

The Respite between each battle/race allows you to supe up your vehicle. You are also on occassion brought in for questioning by folks who take exeption to your wreckless driving. here you have to answer to police, a driving instructor and even a mysterious aunt. Keep them sweet and you'll be able to progress. Simple as this game may be, its crisps graphics and slick sound have made it a cult classic.

There are 2 ways to accelerate to choose from, auto or using the fire button. Auto acclerate means power is continuous and the fire button is used to break. this allows you to focus more on the steering, which needs to quite precise to last the course and not get wrecked. Forward and back commands trigger your weapons such as missiles or mines, depending on what youve selected.

Controls are simple but still can take an initial amount of time to adjust to, and it can all get pretty hectic on tighter courses. the key is precision, ensuring you keep a good driving line, whist avoiding opponents and there weapons. Learning where shortcuts are in the form of jumps, tunnels and gates is essential, although this can spell disaster if not timed properly.

Sequel to the popular Super Cars, SCII is a progression of the top-down racer genre. This style of game was plentiful back in the day, with games like Super Sprint and Nitro and later Skid Marks. SCII has gained cult popularity because of the attention to detail in the graphics and handling. I remember after getting over the initial frustration of learning the courses and getting used to the handling, having a blast with friends in the 2 player split screen.

Developed by Magnetic fields who also were responsible for the popular Lotus Esprit Turbo challenge games, and this game has all the hallmarks of a racing game by them.
