In the early arcades the world needed an injection of something new, exciting and innovative with a laserdisc!

Take control of Dirk the Daring on his madcap adventures in the castle

In 1983 Cinematronics and ex-Disney Animator Don Bluth made arcade gaming history to bring a new experience to gamers of the time. As a laserdisc game the world of cartoons came to the arcades and left us open mouthed if not without any spare change too. For this was a coin collector of the highest factor. The reason - it was very hard to master and the gameplay was more than just a challenge to say the least.

However it didn't stop us gamers having a go and taking control of Dirk the Daring on his adventures. Taking on this role didn't come without it's risks as rescuing Prince Daphne from the evil bad Dragon Singe meant jumping, hanging off things, darting around rooms, drinking potions and generally just trying your best to stay alive. The cartoon effects in-game matched those of the cut scenes and the gameplay itself was a simple directional play with a fire button for the sword when you needed it - jump left/right also played its part. But this wasn't about the control - it was all about entertainment and amazement and for this Dragons Lair goes down in gaming history.
