Street Fighter earns a place in arcade history
Whilst it was not a commericial success Street Fighter set arcade games along a path which was to hit so hard it's difficult to imagine actually now big it was now. And at the time it was huge - fighting games.
With cool characters introduced for the first time such as Capcom's famous Ken and Ryu it laid the foundations for Street Fighter 2. The plot of the game was simple - as Ryu who has the skills of a Japanese martial artist you must go around the world and fight the best to become the best.
A combination of kick punch who had moves to pull off if you were to get anywhere in this game. As well as a six button configuration there was also a deluxe version of the cabinet which are today very rare to find and see. This included the mechatronic pads which would get hammered by young teens and people who loved to hit the hell out of the machine to try to win! It was fun to watch for sure.
The game was developed by two legends at the time Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto who go down in history for the first outing for Capcom. And as said this was jst the start of what is now one of the most long standing and successful game franchises in the world. It all started here in 1987 - in the arcade.
