1984, the town where I live. Always going to the local swimming pool with mates, we used to play the few games that they had in the reception area. Mad Planets,Time Pilot, Pac Land, and XEVIOUS!
This game was hard. well, not really- but when you're ten years old and there is a crowd watching everyone playing Xevious, it becomes hard!Wow. At the time I thought it was the hardest thing since sliced hard stuff. This game was hard. well, not really- but when you're ten years old and there is a crowd watching everyone playing Xevious, it becomes hard! Also an intersting fact about the game is that it adapts to your strategy- if you get reasonably quick at dispatching enemy fighters and ground targets, the game will throw harder fighter craft at you (as a pose to waiting further into the game).

But that didnt stop one of my mates. Oh no. He was on that bloody game for hours. Taking out mother ships and black snooker ball type exploding things and tanks on the water and... well he'd be on it so long that we'd get bored and actually want to go swimming which of course was the main reason we were there. Or was it? Xevious is a classic that is addictive and fun. Not only that, but I killed my first mother ship not so long ago! Excellent. Only took twenty four years
Vertical scrolling shooter where player controls a 'Solvalou' spacecraft. Solvalou being a bad translation that is meant to mean 'sun bird'... Attack ground based units and tanks with bombs which are aimed with cross hair, whilst attacking wave after wave of enemy fighters that adapt to your strategies. Of course you can slow their 'learning' down by taking out as many enemy data storage things (which look like metallic domes with red neon lines on) as you can with ground based enemy turrets shooting at you.
