Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars)

Star Fox 64 (also known as Lylat Wars) was one of the most highly awaited releases for the Nintendo 64, following on from the SNES classic which we reviewed HERE.

Combining flight simulation and shoot-em-up gameplay mechanics, Star Fox 64 offered an exciting and varied experience, which moved at 100mph from the first moment and does not once let up. 

As the intergalactic space pilot Fox McCloud, you play alongside a team of funny characters, together attempting to protect the Lylat System from evil enemy combatants. Your co-pilots offer up encouragement and strategy along the way - the catchphrase ‘Do a barrel roll!’ is still a fan staple even to this day!

What made Star Fox 64 so special was its searing pace, varied level design and intelligent enemies, all of which were underpinned by smooth gameplay and excellent graphics. Such were its ahead-of-its-time qualities and enduring loyalty from its fanbase that it was re-released in 2011 on the Ninentdo DS. Fox McCloud – we hope to see you again in the future...
