Kirby's Dream Course is a Kirby game that dared to be different, and for that I believe it was a complete success.
There's no denying that it's fun to play when you've got two players willing to give it a try.Though games such as Kirby's Avalanche tried to shake up the Kirby formula before, Kirby's Dream Course is the only one that does so while maintaining the key ingredient of a Kirby game, in my opinion.
To this day, I don't know many players that appreciate this game as much as I do. Between the golf mechanics of Dream Course, and the way different enemy power-ups change the way Kirby gets to his goal, Kirby's Dream Course is a fun time for Kirby fans and golf fans alike.
Though its multiplayer mode isn't the reason why everyone loads up the game, there's no denying that it's fun to play when you've got two players willing to give it a try. It used to make my friends and I equally angry, but that didn't stop us from going back to it. Sending the characters and scenarios of Kirby's Dream Land over to a colorful version of golf, Dream Course sends Kirby through eight different worlds consisting of eight different courses, where the goal is to have Kirby hit all of the enemies in a course. Once all but one enemy has been destroyed, the final enemy turns itself into a hole, where the player must navigate Kirby to.
Much like Golf, the idea is to get Kirby into the hole in as few hots as possible. Each shot takes one piece of life away from Kirby, which is represented by little tomatoes. If Kirby loses all four pieces before landing in the hole, the player loses a life and must try again. In the game's multiplayer mode, two Kirbys must fight to make it to the final hole first, and whomever does wins the round.
1995 was a year of both innovation - such as the release of Windows 95 and the widely acclaimed Toy Story, and sadness, with my favorite comic strip Calvin and Hobbes coming to an end. It also marked a change in my own life, when my family moved from my hometown to where I'm currently located a county over.
