If you are one of the lucky people, like me, who bought this Spellcaster game for the Sega Master System, then you really are in for the adventure of a lifetime.

This is a side scrolling game, and you play as Kane, who can jump, and shoot enemies coming towards you such as flying kind of teddy bears, and Ninja soldiers       Wyn James

Oh yes! Back in the 80's you had some really good games, and some pretty well naff games. This on the other hand, in my opinion, falls into the category of 'truly exceptional' games!

If you can put up with the constant music throughout the game, and if you're an avid action/text adventure fan like me, then you are in for a treat. This game will surely put your reflexes to the limit. It took me many many hours of adventuring to complete this huge game I can tell you, and in the latter part of it you're going to need to draw a map like I did.

That is the problem with some adventures. Mapping is essential in one part of the game, but if you can navigate without one, then I guess your navigating is better than mine. However, don't let that put you off, because the arcade sections are really really good.

There is a fair bit of text in this game, and you need to explore everywhere, and you will also need to backtrack sometimes too, which can be a bit of a pain. The graphics are superb throughout, and like I said, if you can put up with the constant music then you will love this game as much as I did.

My rating for this game.... 90%

Rules of the game
This is a side scrolling game, and you play as Kane, who can jump, and shoot enemies coming towards you such as flying kind of teddy bears, and Ninja soldiers. When you shoot a few at once they drop ENGY (Energy) pills, and the longer you hold down the fire button you shoot larger and powerful shots. These pills however do not increase your health.

In the Text part of the game, you will see commands such as... MOVE, TALK, LOOK, TAKE, USE, and the best one SPELL. You can collect spells on your long journey and you will need them in order to complete your quest. You only have one life in this game, so you need to check your STGH (Strength) when you get hit. You do get extra health when you defeat the first Boss. As in any adventure you collect items, spells, and also better weapons.

Kane has been summoned by Daikak, the great leader of the Summit Temple, to stop a war between factions of warlords. The player explores temples and defeats enemies like ghosts, ninja and feral beasts. There are also villages to explore and people to talk to as the player assembles clues on who desecrated his home town's temple and killed its guardians. The quest takes the player across medieval Japan and to the Underworld.

Happy adventuring!
