The Perfect Sequel? With the overwhelming success that Sonic The Hedgehog had given SEGA in the previous year, a sequel was inevitable.

Go left for the easy drive or right for more of a challenge, its the game that never stops giving. What else could you ask for in the past and now..?!

So how did SEGA build on their winning formula?

New into the mix would be an updated sprite for Sonic himself, now with a leaner more vibrant look. Level detail and enemy graphics would also receive an upgrade, now with a much bolder and textured colour palette.

Then there is the new kid in town, Miles "Tails" Prower. The fox with two tails introduction into the series would offer some multiplayer features that were non existent in Sonic's previous adventure. Although some may consider this more of a hindrance than a help (Yes I'm looking at you Special Stages!) Although the rewards for completing these stages and collecting the Chaos Emeralds is much greater this time with the addition of Super Sonic! A golden, invincible speed machine (Game breaking as it may be for some)

Overall Sonic The Hedgehog 2 took everything that made the first game a success and cranked it up a gear, making it faster, longer, bolder and far more re-playable, without straying from the core formula.

And this is why for me Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is not only one of the more rounded and enjoyable games to be released but also one of the greatest sequels of all time, a bold statement, but one I truly believe.Rules of the game:Objective is simple. Progress through each Zone, collecting rings, destroying enemies and foiling Dr. Robotnik's ever imaginative machines.

Free the woodland creatures from Dr. Robotnik's evil clutches and save the world!Memories from that year:Other notable releases from this year would include Super Mario Kart, Kirby's Dream Land and the always controversial Mortal Kombat Arcade.
