I remember the first time I saw Sega Rally on the Saturn and was amazed at the arcade like graphics.
Easy left, easy right....Checkpoint!!It was the first time I had seen something that looked just like the arcade version!! I got my first go of the game in Curry's and remember ringing my wife (was my girlfriend then!!) and saying WE HAVE GOT TO GET A SATURN WITH SEGA RALLY IT IS AMAZING.

I think we had one within a couple of weeks of playing Sega Rally. Because of the general demise of the arcade I think some games have lost that WOW factor that we had back then because the home consoles were being directly compared to their arcade counterparts, once home consoles surpassed the power of the arcades that was lost.
Anyway back to the game, I didn't care that there was only 3 cars, 1 was locked, and 4 tracks it was all about shaving fractions of a second off your best lap time. Once I got used to the "on the edge" handling of the Lancia Stratos it was definitely the car of choice for fast laps. I don't think there has been a racing game since that captured that best lap time addictiveness that Sega Rally did so well.
You had 3 tracks and the aim was to tackle the tracks one at a time trying to overtake as many cars as possible within the time limit to put yourself in pole position to take on the final 4th bonus track and win. You had the choice of 2 cars, the Lancia Stratos and the Toyota Celica and once unlocked the Lancia Stratos.
