Now then you heroes of Greece or Rome!!

I dare you to face the wrath of the Gods in this Spectrum game of the past.

In the game you control your character Orestes, who must avenge his father's murder by returning to the palace of Mycenae

Oh yes, if you're a fan of mythological beasts and anything to do with Greek or Roman history, then THIS is THE game for you. For some reason, as my collection of Spectrum games began growing at the time, I didn't play this game that often I'm sorry to say, however I still do remember enjoying the times I had playing it. It's a very colourful game indeed and there is a lot of roaming around too, so I would truly advise making a map as you progress through the maze like game.

I can also add that it's quite challenging too, and although there is a lack of sound, the programmers have added spot sound effects such as water dripping from the ceiling, and other short sound effects.

So, don't be put off with the lack of sound as the game itself is very addictive, and you never know what's just around the corner so to speak.....yikes!!! Right then, I bet you're wondering what ARE the Gifts from the Gods?

Well, from Zeus:- he receives the silver studded sword given to Ajax by Hector after the Trojan Wars - alone this weapon has the power to defeat the illusionary creatures Orestes (your Hero) will face.

From Apollo:- Orestes is given the seven tears shed by Icarus as he flew towards the sun, these can be left as markers in the catacombs.

The Plot
In the game you control your character Orestes, who must avenge his father's murder by returning to the palace of Mycenae, entering its catacombs, and solving a puzzle. The game is based loosely on a Greek myth attributed to Homer, in which Agamemnon, the father of Orestes, is murdered by his wife Clytemnestra. In the myth, Orestes along with his sister Electra, avenge their father's death by killing their mother, Clytemnestra.

Hidden in 16 rooms are Euclidian shapes, six of which must be collected and assembled in the Guardians Chamber to reveal the exit from the Catacombs. To help Orestes in his quest his sister Electra will point him in the direction of the shapes, but it is up to the player which ones to take. Orestes mother also appears in the game from time to time to hinder his progress, as it is suggested that she had a hand in her husbands murder.

This game has an 'INTELLIGENT' Joystick feature, meaning that the clever controls in this game allow the player to make movements easily - for instance the game knows when you need to fight so that mode is automatically selected. Not bad eh!
Orestes can walk, run and fly with the aid of wings on his boots too.

The game can be lost if Orestes' stamina depletes to zero, however this can be restored by locating life giving water drips that drop down from the ceilings in certain locations.

Good luck in your quest....
